MacBlack Timber

Whanganui-based timber millers and timber specialists

Timber doors custom-made to suit your space

At MacBlack Timber, every door is custom built from locally grown New Zealand timber to suit your existing space, so there's no need to alter your frame or change your layout. Solid timber brings warmth, character and natural grain that manufactured doors simply can't replicate, creating a feature that's made specifically for your home.

Barn doors are our most popular style, whether you prefer a rustic cross braced design or something clean and contemporary, but we also build internal timber doors, exterior solid wooden doors and French doors. To discuss timber species, dimensions and design options, get in touch through the

Design options for your custom timber door

While barn doors are the most common request, we also build internal timber doors, exterior wooden doors and French doors. Standard design options include:

  • Z pattern or arrow pattern bracing
  • Panelling widths of 85mm or 130mm
  • Standard 44mm door thickness
Timber is selected from the same quality stock used for our rough sawn timber, allowing you to choose a species that suits both your project and your budget.

Solid timber species options

Every door is crafted from solid timber, never composite or hollow core. Popular species include macrocarpa, poplar, cedar, red wood and black wood, with macrocarpa and poplar.
Types of custom doors we craft:
  • Traditional Entry Doors
  • Sliding Barn Doors
  • Solid Panel Doors
  • Solid Bifold Doors
  • Architectural & Non-Standard Doors
We'll recommend the most suitable timber species based on whether your door is intended for an interior or exterior application.

Efficient lead times with controlled drying throughout

Oil finishes are available for interior doors, with exterior oils and timber preservatives applied where appropriate.

Custom timber doors generally take four to six weeks from order confirmation to collection, with around half that time dedicated to carefully drying and preparing the timber before joinery begins. Taking the time to prepare the timber properly dramatically reduces the risk of warping, twisting and movement over the life of the door.

MacBlack Timber specialises in solid timber joinery, with no composite cores or fire rated doors. Learn more about our team and craftsmanship on the
